Will ingrown toe nail grow out
An ingrown toenail is an uncomfortable and often painful condition that occurs when the corner of the nail digs into the flesh of the toe. It is caused by wearing shoes that do not fit properly, cutting your toenails incorrectly, or an injury to the foot or toe. Fortunately, most cases of ingrown toenails can be successfully treated at home.
Generally, an ingrown toenail will grow out with proper care and attention. It is important to avoid further pinching or irritation to the area, so the nail can heal properly. If the nail has already been damaged, you may need to have it removed or reset. Otherwise, it can be treated with the following steps:
1. Soak the affected foot or toe in warm water several times a day. This will help to soften the nail and reduce pain and swelling.
2. Wear comfortable shoes and socks that do not cause any additional pressure on the affected toe.
3. Cut or trim the toenail back and prevent any drifting of the nail into the flesh of the toe. Or book to see a Podiatrist to do this.
4. Apply a topical medication to the area to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
5. If infection is present, your Podiatrist may prescribe an antibiotic and or surgery to remove the nail/part of nail.
If the above measures do not improve the condition within a few days, consult with a medical professional ideally a Podiatrist to examine the area.
In some cases, it may be necessary to remove or reset the nail. With proper care and attention, most cases of ingrown toenails can be corrected and will grow out. However, some people may develop chronic ingrown toenails that are resistant to treatment. If you are uncertain of how to best care for your condition, a medical professional (Podiatrists are experts here) can provide guidance and advice.
